Be Responsible About Your Prescription Pain Medication!

We often hear about the dangers of illegal drugs, but a recent report has shown that legal narcotic painkillers cause more deaths in the U.S. each year than heroin and cocaine combined. The CDC reports that abuse of narcotic painkillers has reached epidemic proportions in the U.S. with 15,000 deaths being caused by prescription painkillers in 2008 alone.

With medication theft reports rising every year due to the rise in the abuse of prescription painkillers, the Jasonville Police Department urges you to take extra precautions in protecting you and your family.

Your medicine cabinet, bedroom night stand, kitchen tables are rapidly becoming the main source of drugs kids and/or young adults are using to get high. 99% of all medication theft reports that we (JPD) are taking is because of unsupervised prescription pain medications. If you have children or adolescents in your household or if they come to visit, lock up your prescription painkillers! In addition, if you have any old medications left unused, take them to your local pharmacy for proper disposal!

LOCK YOUR CAR AT ALL TIMES!!!

J.P.D. HAS BEEN TAKING THEFT REPORTS AGAIN INVOLVING OUR THIEVES IN THE NIGHT WONDERING AROUND THE CITY GETTING INTO UNLOCKED CARS!  THESE THEFTS ARE OCCURRING BETWEEN 1 AND 4 A.M., ITEMS BEING TAKEN ARE THE USUAL MONEY, STEREO SYSTEMS, CD'S, ANYTHING OF VALUE.  WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO CONTACT AN OFFICER ANYTIME YOU SEE OR HEAR ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY THROUGH OUR DISPATCH 1-800-385-1140
